Kayakers of the Hunter Valley & Lake Macquarie

I just want to add this post to welcome the 'new' additions to the Klan and thank everyone for getting behind this. We now have 12 members and it is my experience that organizations reach a critical mass where new members keep arriving without as much effort as finding the original few. I think this clan should never reach a size where it's unmanageable but having a good pool of paddlers available means we shouldn't have to paddle alone any more.
I see many lone paddlers out on the water who are looking for kayaking connections and I often stop and chat. To assist them I am preparing some waterproof cards with the URLs of our klan and the NSW Seakayaking Club so that they can connect up.
I would also like the klan to represent itself as a unified body when we go to things like Rock n Roll so I'm thinking of a klan logo and maybe something like a rashie or cag in our colours, whatever they end up being. For non-NSW club members, some context on these issues can be read at my blog at http://avastyematey.wordpress.com. Please send me any thoughts and ideas as there seems to be some serious momentum in the clan concept across the state and I'd like ours to be the benchmark.
Also, my life has turned upside down lately with work and this is causing me considerable stress and uncertainty. Consequently, I have been unreliable in replying to things you guys are organizing. I am now also injured with a dislocated patella which is limiting my movement. I don't think I will be able to get to the Rob Mercer sessions but urge those going to take photos. I would also like someone going to be a guest blogger at avastyematey for me as I wanted to do a story on this but now can't.
I have this Monday/Tuesday off and might paddle if anyone else can. I think I also have next weekend off and was thinking of going down to Blacksmiths breakwall for some kayak surfing practice if anyone is interested.

Thanks all, for making the Klan a success.

Oops. Navigation and anatomy are not needed for kayaking are they? :). Bill don't worry I will be sure to leave any first aid to others!

Simon,
If your thinking of paddling off into the wild blue yonder you might want to think about a first aid course. I am pretty sure the patella is not in the shoulder.

If I pass out tomorrow while stuffing up a roll please ask someone else to administer first aid.

Cheers

Bill

Hi Brad,

as always, you make good sense. Sorry to hear about the knee, that must have really smarted. Hope it's healing well. The stress of big work loads is always a bugger, and the worst of it is that the workload usually interferes with the activities that help to wind down and blow off the excess steam. Hope it all settles down soon.

I was planning on taking a camera tomorrow too, so hopefully we'll get some good shots between us.

Cheers,

John
