ANYONE FOR ROLLING AT NEWCASTLE UNI AQUATIC CENTRE??

Hi all

Just an idea - I called The Forum Aquatic Centre (http://www.theforum.org.au/page3233/The-Forum-University.aspx) today. Apparently it's quite OK for a group of us to hire time in the H E A T E D pool if we want to do our own rolling practice. It is $24 for one hour - half a lane length (ie we have 25m of a 50m long lane). This could be a regular one night a week for a few weeks I guess if we wanted to.

There is a group who do this already - they are a school training for a Duke of Edinburgh award.

Anyone interested?

Cheers

David

Thanks guys for the time upside down in the pool last night!
I learned:
* My skepticism about Harry Havu telling me a year ago in Marrickville pool that I was close to rolling was justified
* Saw arms today from hip flick practice tells me I relied on them far too much
* Graeme is a great instructor - but why does he have to tell me he now succeeds less than half? (What hope do I have?!)
* Mirage rubber hatches keep every drop out - but rear hatches with only fibre glass covers don't!
* My shiny boat needs maintenance - one rudder pedal is almost frozen - and the back up hand pump is the same - would be great to find out if it was being relied on.
* Cameras should not be permitted
* Next time I will try and bring a mate with no boat - so I don't rob another kayaker of time in their kayak.

Cheers
David

One thing swimming pools normally like is for the kayaks to be clean i.e. no sand and sea weed falling out from under the seat or mud coming off foot pegs etc.So I'm going to have to clean my boat or at least get the magpie poo off the deck.

Gday all

We are confirmed for Monday at 6.30pm - cost $60. I would suggest getting there early - say 6.10 or so to get the kayaks off cars and get changed so that we can get straight into the pool at 6.30. I will bring my video camera and laptop to view the DVD. We can record the rolls so everyone can get some feedback.

Excellent, thanks Anne. I'll see you on Monday.

Shane, Please come along - after all anyone who paddles a Mirage 530 is a person of good taste (at least when it comes to boats).

Hi guys, I've only just joined the site but am interested in the training session next Monday night if you are still looking for numbers. I don't have any experience rolling sea kayaks but I have a Mirage 530 and am keen to give it a go.

That should have read "no one else booked in"

Down to the pool today - as it is a volunteer thing I missed the important person but there is not one else in the booking sheet. Will ring again tomorrow. No worries about the laptop Graeme ours will do fine.
