Tried it today. Couldn't get the boat over. Felt like I would either break the boat or myself. David

About Me:
Late starter to kayaking (only thought of it when knees went bad). Wish I had taken up kayaking decades ago. Love nature (when it is nice). Bit passionate about music and high end audio. Member Souths Photography Club. Snr Strategist in Newcastle Council's Sustainable and Strategic Planning Group. Watch out! I might invite you to a Men's Breakfast to hear an interesting speaker. Can be found in church most Sundays but don't consider myself religious. Definitely don't know everything or have all the answers. Try to be a good listener.

ANYONE FOR ROLLING AT NEWCASTLE UNI AQUATIC CENTRE??

Hi all

Just an idea - I called The Forum Aquatic Centre (http://www.theforum.org.au/page3233/The-Forum-University.aspx) today. Apparently it's quite OK for a group of us to hire time in the H E A T E D pool if we want to do our own rolling practice. It is $24 for one hour - half a lane length (ie we have 25m of a 50m long lane). This could be a regular one night a week for a few weeks I guess if we wanted to.

There is a group who do this already - they are a school training for a Duke of Edinb… Continue

Straw Tent Pole

This is a straw pole.

What Tents do you have?

I have decided to replace the hiking tent given to me 30 years ago - and it has no poles - you find two sticks! Last time I used it was in 2003 when I hiked from Hawks Nest to Seal Rocks and stayed over at Mungo Brush. After seeing Owen's picture and reading John's comments about staying dry I think it's time for an upgrade!

Thanks

David

Yes David please explain...

Owen said "David G, There's got to be a story about that new profile photo of you; you look all arse and elbows. Satisfy my curiosity."

I can't offer any rational explanation!

In an irrational flash of enthusiasm my cousin and I decided to use a old surf something or other given to me at a BBQ to conquer the surf at Forster one Christmas. You get what you pay for - the previous owner said he had fixed all the leaks - but we could hardly carry the "craft" out of the water (from all the water th… Continue

Hang the Kayak?

How do you store your kayak(s)?

For example does anyone drive in to the garage and just hoist the kayak straight up to the roof ready to be lowered directly on to the rook racks for the next paddle?

Are they a pain and in the way?

At present I sometimes laboriously hoist my shorter (17 ft) plastic Kayak to the garage roof - but not ready to come down on the car. However often this kayak does not get hoisted because it so fiddly!. The other one (19ft Mirage) goes a bit diagonally on the garage… Continue

Hi David,

yes looking forward to hooking up for a paddle. How are Thursday evenings for you ? Simon, Brad and I are trying to get out one evening a week and at present it's Thursday. I know Simon and I are both pretty flexible though so if there's a day that you prefer, we could possibly change days to suit.

I hadn't realised that you'd joined the NSWSKC, until I saw your profile here. Brad's done us all a great service in getting this site up and running. Perhaps we could get the club to look at instigating a more localised system to help put new members in touch with each other.

cheers,

John
